Rice
University Chooses @RISK for
Innovative New "Trading Room"
INNOVATIVE TRAINING FACILITY TAKES NO RISKS WITH DECISION ANALYSIS SOFTWARE
Houston,
TX - When the Jesse
H. Jones Graduate School of Management at Rice University moved
into its new building in 2002, it added a state-of-the-art facility
to allow MBA candidates to experience wheeling and dealing under
real and simulated market conditions. Students use the El Paso Corporation
Finance Center for research and course work and for simulating trading
and market behaviors. The room’s designer and project manager,
SkyTech, sought to equip the new space with the most advanced technology
available. Consequently, every workstation in the El Paso Corporation
Finance Center is running Palisade Corporation’s @RISK.
The Jones Graduate School of Management is one of the first U.S. business schools to provide its students a space for hands-on practice with real-world business information. Underwritten by the El Paso Corporation, the Finance Center provides a number of avenues of access to real-time data from the global markets, as well as to historical market and performance data. @RISK is the tool the school’s 500 students use to analyze the data to project outcomes and simulate decision processes.
Finance professor Barbara Ostdiek explained the importance of the
school’s choice of software. “It is very important for
these new decision makers to be entirely comfortable with the overwhelming
amount and complexity of information they’ll have to deal
with when they when they leave the school for that first big job.
And we’re convinced that @RISK is the tool that can provide
the most sophisticated perspective on the information they’ll
use for decision making.”
