Determine your Operating System
(32-bit or 64-bit)

If you have Microsoft Excel 2007 or earlier, you have the 32-bit version of Excel.

If you have Microsoft Excel 2010 or later, you may be running either 32-bit or 64-bit Excel. To determine your version, use one of the methods below.

Method 1

  1. Open Microsoft Excel
  2. Click File
  3. Click Help
  4. Under the About Microsoft Excel heading examine the Version to see if it indicates 64-bit, as in the image below.

Method 2

  1. If My Computer is on your desktop, right-click on it.
  2. Select Properties
  3. Under System, the System Type should state whether it is a 32-bit Operating System or a 64-bit Operating System. If My Computer is not on your desktop the same information can be found on the Control Panel under System.
