Integrating @RISK into the DMAIC Process
The Lean Six Sigma approach has been integrated into the fabric of many of the world’s top companies. This approach is based upon the DMAIC framework – Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control. Within each step, discrete toolsets can be applied to the problem at hand. There are significant advantages to adding @RISK analyses at key points in the process to shorten the issue resolution lead-time, generate additional insights and enhance the final solution. This presentation is divided into two parts. Part I is a brief overview of the Lean Six Sigma methodology and how it is applied to various industries and problem sets. Part II consists of mini-case studies involving the application of @RISK at various stages of the DMAIC process in real-world manufacturing applications. The framework for both appropriate and sub-optimal applications of the software will be discussed. From these initial studies, other applications in non-manufacturing processes will be extrapolated.
