Q: What is the difference between the INDEPC and INDEP correlation functions?
A: INDEPC and DEPC use rank order correlation, while INDEP and DEP use an alternative technique based on a "dependency value". INDEPC and DEPC are preferred because they use a correlation coefficient which is consistent with the normal statistical definition. The dependency value of DEP and INDEP functions does not correspond directly to the traditional correlation coefficient. Rank order correlation is approximate in nature, so the difference between two identical distributions related by a correlation coefficient of 1 will not be exactly zero. This is not the case with DEPC and INDEPC.
