Palisade Regional Sales Manager Jeff Evans will set the stage for maximizing the benefits you’ll receive from the conference. After reviewing the conference goals, he will give some context about Palisade as a company. He will then give a brief introduction to quantitative decision-making using @RISK, demonstrating the powerful methodology that underpins the case studies to follow.
The DecisionTools Suite is widely used in oil and gas exploration, production, and project decisions. For decades, @RISK has helped engineers and finance managers estimate unknown reserves, value new projects against each other, and craft optimal strategies. PrecisionTree, another tool in the DecisionTools Suite, is commonly used for drilling strategy discussions, production siting problems, and other multi-stage, sequential decisions. RISKOptimizer comes into play when companies need to determine the best “mix” of projects in their portfolio in order to maximize overall returns.
In this presentation, we will demonstrate how @RISK and the DecisionTools Suite can be applied to common types of issues faced by oil and gas producers.
Drawing on decades of experience, Henry Yennie will explain how @RISK’s Monte Carlo simulation can help manage information and operations in a crisis situation. Though stakeholders usually demand a single “number” for a particular plan, Henry will demonstrate how disconnected that approach is from the reality of risk. The techniques covered will apply for anyone facing risk and uncertainty in their business or projects, whether you’re in oil and gas, construction and procurement, healthcare, or other sectors.
In the past, plain vanilla stock options were the go-to instruments issued to executives and employees as deferred compensation. More recently, an increasing proportion of total compensation packages are being tied to the performance objectives of the company. This is especially the case for private equity firms and their portfolio companies. As a result, no longer can one rely on simple Black Scholes models to determine the fair value of these instruments. Instead, the need for more complex option pricing models such as binomial lattice and Monte Carlo simulation are being required. Further complicating this analysis, some forms of compensation instruments rely on distributions of residual firm equity at some point in the future.
The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate how we utilize @RISK to model the evolution of firm equity to determine the fair value of these types of financial instruments.
