On October 21st, we brought our popular Regional Risk Conference series to the beautiful capital of Italy; Rome, gathering at the Sheraton Roma Hotel & Conference Center, which is located in the EUR business district. This event was organized together with the PMI Italy Chapter and explored quantitative risk and decision analysis for professionals across a range of industries. About 150 attendees represented various interests, from financial analysis to construction project risk assessment.
The Conference was opened by Manuel Carmona, a Palisade Regional Sales manager, who gave an Introduction to Palisade, followed by a presentation on "The World of Probabilistic Analysis”. Over the course of the day there were further sessions from Palisade Consultant Sarah Sherry, and Manuel Carmona, who introduced @RISK & DecisionTools Suite; demonstrating the main functions and uses. Examples of customized solutions from Finance, Manufacturing, and Project Management were presented to delegates.
Throughout the day a number of highly educational case studies were presented by guest speakers:
Delegates also had the opportunity of one-to-one 'Expert Sessions', which were offered by Palisade consultants and technical experts. These hands-on, consulting sessions helped participants to improve their risk models and answer some good insight to problems.
Delegates took advantage of the chance to network and share ideas during the breaks and the evening networking session over a glass of wine.

Palisade Sales Manager, Manuel Carmona, will open the conference by giving a brief overview of Palisade, Palisade Risk Conferences and the partnership with the PM. He will then address the questions you’ve undoubtedly been faced with: "What is risk analysis, and why do I need it?"
This presentation will use examples from different industries and applications to give an entry-level introduction to @RISK and the other products in the DecisionTools Suite, as well as showing how the new features in the latest releases add additional capabilities to the analyst’s toolbox. Manuel Carmona will also shine a light on some of the lesser-known corners of the software, to provide useful tips about how to make risk modelling even easier.
We will present the PMI Practice Standard for Project Risk Management, as well as the main features of the Risk Management Certification PMI-RMP®.
We will detail how Quantitative Risk Analysis is implemented in Technip, with a focus on the probabilistic methodology based on Monte Carlo simulation through @RISK, add-in for Microsoft® Excel.
Palisade Custom Development has written dozens of different types of specialized applications using the functionality of @RISK, PrecisionTree, TopRank, and other DecisionTools products. These applications run the gamut of industry sectors and are specifically designed to accomplish just what the client needs. In this way, Palisade custom-designed applications simplify the rollout of powerful decision-making analytics within organizations by reducing learning curves and removing any potentially confusing options for users. Interfaces, model logic, and reports can all be tailored to the client’s exact specifications, driven by powerful Palisade analytics “under the hood.”
Most Palisade custom solutions run directly in Excel, using VBA and the Excel Developer Kit (or XDK) feature of the DecisionTools Suite programs. Some are built using the @RISK Developer Kit (RDK), a programming toolkit that runs outside the Excel platform and can be used on a web server.
This session will highlight a number of interesting examples of different types of custom applications we’ve done. They include cost estimation, risk registers, asset management, retirement planning, oil and gas prospecting, and more.
